May is a month filled with meaning. It holds space for Mental Health Awareness Month, Mother’s Day, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month—a convergence that reminds us how deeply personal and beautifully interconnected healing can be.
At Black Lotus Counseling Center, we see firsthand how mental, emotional, and physical health are intertwined. We also see how healing does not happen in isolation. It is cyclical, rippling outward from individuals to families, to communities, and back again. The work performed by therapists around the world is often behind the scenes, yet it is work that nourishes the roots of thriving relationships, resilient children, healthy workplaces, and strong communities.
This month, we honor the courageous individuals who walk through our doors and into the hard work of growth and healing. We celebrate the mothers—biological, adoptive, chosen, and spiritual—whose care is often the foundation of emotional development for generations. We recognize that for many, motherhood is as complex as it is beautiful. The joys, losses, and challenges of mothering all deserve space in the conversation about mental health.
We also uplift our AAPI clients, clinicians, and community members across the country. Cultural identity is an integral part of mental wellness, and honoring heritage is one way to nurture that well-being. AAPI individuals have long contributed to the fabric of American life, and acknowledging the mental health needs and strengths of these communities is essential in the work of inclusive healing.
This May, we invite you to reflect on the holistic rhythms of care: how tending to mental health supports physical health, how healing emotional wounds can spark confidence and creativity, and how every person who finds support in therapy brings that strength back to their relationships and communities.
As a practice, we are grateful—deeply grateful—to be part of this cycle. The work is sometimes quiet, often challenging, and not always recognized. But it is work we do with full hearts and unwavering commitment. Together, we are building something vital.
Thank you for trusting us to walk this path with you.
